Proteus Gowanus Named after the Greek sea god who could change form, Proteus Gowanus is an interdisciplinary gallery and reading room. The gallery is located in a waterfront area with a history dating back to the Revolutionary War. The building, a former 1900 box factory constructed with huge wooden beams and high ceilings, is situated centrally among several vibrant Brooklyn neighborhoods. Proteus Gowanus works reciprocally with non-profit partner organizations, that utilize the Proteus space, and receive proceeds from sales. Proteus Gowanus incorporates the rich interdisciplinary resources of its non-profit partners into exhibits and programs.
Collaborating Non-Profits: We remind you that, though Proteus Gowanus encourages quiet viewing and contemplation, and looks a bit like a museum, we enthusiastically sell everything on display with the exception of archival material. We invite you to come visit! |
