Proteus Gowanus will reopen on Friday, October 17th. Opening reception 6 – 9 p.m.

The Reading Room maintains an ongoing selection of art, artifacts and books related to former Soviet Georgia, to bees, and to former PG themes: Play, libraries, and travel.

Three permanent installations of an archival nature are located in a space adjacent to Proteus Gowanus:

The Museum of Matches, A Cold War Room
Developed by artist Sasha Chavchavadze, the installation explores the Cold War through an evolving array
of visual art, narrative prose, documents, photographs, memorabilia and publications.

The Reanimation Library
Developed by artist/librarian Andrew Beccone, the independent library serves artists,
writers and other cultural archeologists.

Anonima
An archive of visual art, books, documents and ephemera from a 1960’s artist collaborative.

Blue Fire
This work centers on the enigmatic figure of Constance Kent, a young British woman who in 1865 astonished the world by confessing to the brutal murder of her three year old half-brother five years before. The most extraordinary aspect of her story, however, is the near certainty that her confession was false.

Hall of the Gowanus
An installation of art, artifacts and books related to the past, present and future of our neighbor and namesake, the Gowanus Canal.
